Follow the event on Twitter #WBLive

Join World Bank President Jim Yong Kim and Japanese entrepreneurs for a dialogue on the challenges and solutions for scaling-up social enterprises. Taking part in the discussion will be young entrepreneurs who have been using innovative approaches to try to make a difference in Japan and developing countries. These approaches include improving the education divide between urban and rural areas in Bangladesh through e-learning, disseminating orthopedic solutions are affordable to everyone in need in India, manufacturing high-quality and ethical leather ware to improve the livelihoods for local people in Ethiopia, introducing life-changing simple technologies to connect last mile communities by online innovation marketplace, and creating eye-catching mobile apps by taking advantage of open data.

There is growing recognition that governments or international organizations acting alone cannot eradicate extreme poverty.  There is no single model or entity that can meet the growing demands of poor and under-served populations throughout the world.  The development community needs to learn from innovations in the private sector, international organizations, governments, academic institutions, and civil society groups.
