Shwetlena Sabarwal is a Lead Economist in World Bank’s Education Global Practice. She was a co-author of the World Development Report 2018: Learning to Realize Education’s Promise; World Development Report 2019: The Changing Nature of Work, and several other World Bank flagship reports. She helped with the development of World Bank’s Human Capital Index; co-leading the design of the Learning Adjusted Years of Schooling measure, which is now being used globally to track education outcomes. Her research, which focuses on learning outcomes, teacher effectiveness, and education service delivery, has been published in prominent journals like the Journal of Human Resources, American Economic Review P&P, Economics of Education Review etc. She is World Bank’s global lead on Education and Climate Change and has led the World Bank’s education engagement in Bangladesh, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, and Uganda. She holds a PhD in Applied Economics from University of Minnesota. Read more
