Internationally, Ramiro has been a driving force in ensuring that Indigenous Peoples and local communities have a strong voice in global biodiversity conservation — helping secure recognition of their rights, knowledge, and contributions in the decisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its protocols.
At home in Guatemala, Ramiro has been equally influential — championing the recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ cultural forest management practices, their land rights, and their traditional governance systems as central to conserving forests and biodiversity.
