Before joining the World Bank, Peer Stein worked in Germany as a management consultant in enterprise restructuring, and as a partner in a strategic market research firm covering Eastern Europe. In 1996, he joined the IFC where he worked in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe on both the investment and advisory side of IFC. From 2012-2014, he was responsible for IFC's Access to Finance Advisory Business Line. Since 2014, he has served as Director, Finance and Markets Global Practice, World Bank Group, overseeing the global agenda for financial sector development, including financial stability, financial inclusion, and SME finance. He has also been leading the World Bank Group's engagement with the G20 on financial inclusion. Peer Stein is also a lecturer on financial sector reform and development at Johns Hopkins University/SAIS. Peer Stein serves as Chair, World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on the Future of Financing & Capital.
