Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer is the Director and Chief Economist of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and also director of the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC). Furthermore, he is professor at the Technical University of Berlin and considered one of the world's leading experts on the economics of climate change.
From 2008 to 2015, Ottmar Edenhofer served as Co-Chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), leading the fifth assessment cycle. He advises Chancellor Merkel, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, German President Frank-Walther Steinmeier and the World Bank as well as other national and international government and non-government institutions.
In 2021, he was awarded the prestigious German Environmental Prize by the German Environmental Foundation (DBU) for his outstanding achievements in the field of carbon pricing.
