Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u has been the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury & Economic Planning of Kenya, since September 2022. Previously, he was the Executive Director of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and served as Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya. He is an associate professor of Economics at the University of Nairobi.
Ndung’u holds a PhD in Economics from University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He is a Member of Brookings Africa Growth Initiative, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, which coordinates financial inclusion policies in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and Senior Advisor for the UNCDF-based Better Than Cash Alliance.
