Naledi Madala is a Senior Policy Advisor in Botswana’s Ministry of Finance responsible for advising the Minister and Senior officials with fact-based economic and financial policy analysis to support decision making. Prior to assuming this role, she was an Economist and Strategist at Absa Bank Botswana at the level of Vice President responsible for conducting macroeconomic research and providing forecasts for business strategy. She contributed to the overall strategy for the bank with inputs into business functions, support functions including finance, risk, credit and the bank’s senior committees including as a member of the Board Credit committee and standing invitee to the Board Risk committee. Her portfolio also entailed supporting the Chief of Staff in driving strategy execution.

She was a Research Fellow at the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA), in the Macroeconomics Forecasting and Planning Unit. Whilst at BIDPA she participated in multi-disciplinary research teams and contributed to broad-based solutions to development policy questions. She was an Academic Visitor at the Urban Institute-Centre on International Development and Governance in Washington, DC where she coordinated research on urban service delivery, investigating the constraints on more effective, efficient, and accountable delivery of essential services (solid waste management, water, and sanitation services) in selected cities in Sub Saharan Africa. Naledi was an appointed member of the University of Botswana Council, where she chaired the Audit Committee. She holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Botswana and has done advanced training in business strategy from Harvard Division of Continuing Education and holds a Certificate in Finance for Non-Financial Managers from Botswana Accountancy College.
