Dr. Naglaa El Ehwany (born in March 1951) is the Minister of International Cooperation of the Arab Republic of Egypt since June 2014. She is also Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics & Political Science, Cairo University, since 1998. She was Deputy Director and Lead Economist at the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES) since October 2006 till May 2010. Prior to that, she was Director of the Center for European Studies at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, during the period 2002 to 2006. She also worked as Consultant to the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (1999–2002), the International Labor Organization (1995–1997 & 2000–2002), and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (1998–2000). She worked as Economic Researcher at the Arab Planning Institute (API) in Kuwait from 1977–1980 and started her professional career as Instructor at the Faculty of Economics & Political Science, Cairo University, in 1974.
Dr. El Ehwany served as Board Member of various prestigious entities and currently serves as a Board Member of the Social Fund for Development (2012–present), and the Arab Society for Economic Research (2013–present). Dr. El Ehwany received her Ph.D. in Economics from the Faculty of Economics & Political Science, Cairo University, in July 1984. The title of her dissertation was “Egyptian Labor Migration to the Oil States and its Relation to the Structural Changes in the Egyptian Economy". She holds M.A. and B.Sc. degrees in Economics from the Faculty of Economics & Political Science, Cairo University (February 1979 and May 1973 consecutively). She is fluent in English and French.
