Santiago Bertoni Hicar, Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Paraguay, has a professional career spanning 35 years in the agriculture and livestock sector, with emphasis in Public Administration, Agricultural Research, International Trade, Agricultural and Food Biotechnology, Biosafety, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures. Min. Bertoni’s previous positions in MAG include Vice Minister; President, Paraguayan Institute of Agrarian Technology (IPTA); General Director of Planning; Director of Trade and Integration; and Director of the Chaco Central Experimental Station. Min. Bertoni has represented MAG in the Committee for the Paraguayan Indigenous Institute and the National Commission for Agricultural and Forestry Biosafety, as well as in the Cartagena Protocol on biosafety. Min. Bertoni is also a Member of the International Society for Biosafety Research.
