Born on 11th of August 1975. Doctor of Economics at the University of Sussex. Graduated from the Faculty of Economics, University of Warsaw.

In 1998 and 2007, Mateusz Szczurek completed econometrics courses at the International Center for Money and Banking Studies in Geneva and London. In 1994-1997 he participated in a joint programme of the University of Warsaw and Columbia University in the City of New York, School of International and Public Affairs, and received the title of Bachelor of Arts In 1997, he became Master of Arts in international economy, University of Sussex.

From 2011 Mateusz Szczurek was chief economist of ING Group for Central and Eastern Europe. In 1997-2011 he was economist at ING Barings, and then chief economist at ING Bank Śląski.
Lecturer of economics at the Warsaw School of Economics, University of Sussex and Goethe Business School (Frankfurt). In 2003-2005 co-founder and President of the British Alumni Society in Poland. Member of the Polish Economists' Society. From 27 November 2013 to 22 September 2014 Minister of Finance in the government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Since 22 September 2014 Minister of Finance in the government of Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz. In 2014 he was awarded a prestigious title of Finance Minister of the Year for Central & Eastern Europe by the Emerging Markets service of Euromoney group. He was also named Finance Minister of the Year 2015 by The Banker magazine.

Mateusz Szczurek likes photography and cycling (in the past few years he made 30 thousand km by bike in, among others, Rwanda, Central Asia and the Andes).
