Marouane El Abassi is a PhD in Economics from the University of Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne. A Senior Economist with the World Bank as from January 2008, he coordinated the Country Programme for Libya. In 2012, he was appointed Office Manager of the World Bank in Libya. He was Senior Adviser at the Arab Institute of Business Managers (IACE), Expert for the Tunisian Institute of Strategic Studies and Economic Adviser at the Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and handicrafts charged with conducting the export development project financed by the World Bank.
Being an Associate Professor of Economics, he was appointed as full professor at the University of Carthage in 2007, he served as an economist-advisor for several national and international organizations with international expertise in business policies and finance. Marouane El Abassi has received an honorary mention for excellence in teaching and research on economic development and finance, has published many of his articles in renowned economic magazines and participated in publication of several works.
In 2018, Marouane El Abassi was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia. He was rewarded “Best Central Bank Governor for the Middle East and North Africa region” by Global Markets in 2019.
