Marieme Bekaye is the current Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development for Mauritania. Prior to this position, she worked as Environment and Sustainable Development Officer for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa's Regional Office for North Africa (2009-2019), Director of Private Sector Promotion for the General Delegation for the Promotion of Private Investment (2006-2008), and as an independent international consultant (2004-2006). She has held positions with the UNDP-Mauritania (1996-2004) and EDF-European Union-Mauritania Unit. Minister Bekaye holds an engineering degree from ENSIA de Paris.
