Dr. Khaled Abdelghaffar (Arabic: خالد عاطف عبد الغفار) is the former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the current Minister of Health and Population in Egypt. He was appointed Acting Minister of Health and Population in October 2021.

Dr. Abdelghaffar holds a bachelor's degree (1984), a master’s degree (1989), and a PhD (1995). He headed the Department of Oral Medicine, Gum, Diagnosis and Radiology at the Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University (2009 to 2015), and served as Dean of Dentistry in Ain Shams (2014) and Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research. Awarded the State Encouragement Prize in Medical Sciences, he also received other accolades including IADR Edward Hatton Award for Best Research in Seattle Washington, USA, and Unilever Travel Award Winner IADR Best research.

Dr. Abdelghaffar ranked second for best research, Euro-Perio Paris France in 1994, and first for best research, Ain-Shams University in 1999. He has participated in many international conferences related to higher education, has 30 international publications, 20 international peer reviewers, and supervised over 150 MSc and PhD researches.

He is a member of various professional societies including the American Academy of Periodontology, International Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Academy of Oral Medicine, International Association of Dental Research, American Dental Association, Egyptian Clinical Dental Society, Egyptian Implant ology Dental Association, and Egyptian Dental Association.
