Juan Carlos López is the chief correspondent for the CNN en Español office in Washington D.C. and has been working as a reporter for CNN since 1993.
Before becoming a permanent correspondent, López collaborated with CNN en Español and CNN International, covering various events from Colombia. Additionally, he participated in CNN's International Professionals Program and regularly contributed to the CNN World Report program. Previously, López worked as a news anchor and reporter for Cadena 1's news program in Bogotá. Among other events, he covered the Armenia earthquake and the mass kidnapping by leftist rebels in Cali. He also worked as a reporter for WLTV Channel 23 in Miami, where he was nominated for an Emmy Award for a special series.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, López holds a journalism degree from Javeriana University in that city. He also studied at the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation for New Ibero-American Journalism in Cartagena, Colombia.
