Jerome Socolovsky is the award-winning religion correspondent for the Voice of America, based in Washington. He reports on the rapidly changing faith landscape of the United States, including interfaith issues, secularization and non-affiliation trends and the growth of immigrant congregations. Jerome’s story on U.S. churches taking up the fight for work-family balance won first prize from the Religion Newswriters Association in 2013.
Jerome has extensive multimedia reporting experience from foreign datelines including Rome, Cairo, Havana, Amsterdam, Damascus and Rio de Janeiro. Before joining VOA, he was National Public Radio’s correspondent in Madrid from 2002 to 2010, and was an Associated Press foreign correspondent in Europe and the Middle East from 1990-2002.Jerome holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and graduate degrees from Harvard University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Jerome speaks English, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Hebrew, German, French and some Arabic.
