Wanjiru (Ciiru) Waweru Waithaka is a serial entrepreneur from Kenya. Ms. Waithaka graduated in Interior Architecture from the University of Glasgow. She successfully founded and ran an interior architecture consultancy called Amber Africa for 10 years. She then launched Funkidz Limited, a children's brand that designs and manufactures products targeting children up to age 16. Part of Funkidz is Kidz Go Tech, which focuses on transforming and leapfrogging education on the African continent experientially through tech education, animation, and robotics. In October 2016, Wanjiru received an award from Goldman Sachs for her work in Kidz Go Tech. In March 2017, Wanjiru and her company received a global award, the Women 4 Tech award, from GSMA in Barcelona. In March 2019, Funkidz received an award from the Government of Kenya’s Ministry of Environment for its innovative solution to addressing Environmental Challenges and its contribution to Sustainable Consumption and Production. In the same month, Wanjiru was recognized by the Kenya Association of Manufactures for her contribution to manufacturing in Kenya and for elevating women in manufacturing.
