Since beginning her career with the Ministry in 1986, Ms. Christiane Bögemann-Hagedorn has mainly focused on development policy strategy and development in Africa. As head of the Directorate for Civil Society and Private Sector (2010-14), she steered the shift in German development policy towards nongovernmental actors, including private enterprises, and paved the way for promoting private sector and SME development, jobs and inclusive green growth to get greater prominence in the national and international development agendas (G 20). She gained on-the-ground experience in development policy through foreign postings lasting several years in Mexico and Sudan. She is a lawyer and holds a Ph.D in social anthropology.
