Bima Arya currently serves as a Mayor of Bogor, having been elected for the period of 2014-2019. He was one of the founders of the National Mandate Party and is an active member.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in International relations from Parahyangan University. He, then, graduated with a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia in 2001, and received a PhD in Political Science from the Australian National University in Canberra in 2006.
Before becoming active in politics, he was a Lecturer at the Department of International Relations and Executive Director, the Lead Institute, at the University of Paramadina; a Lecturer at Parahyangan University; as well as a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Social and Political Change in Australian National University. Further, he was also a research fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Jakarta.
Three months into his tenure as the Mayor of Bogor, he received an award from Indonesia Digital Society due to the establishment of online systems for the city. He has also received awards from the Ministry of Health and the National Body of Demographics and Family Planning for the City’s successful family planning program. The City also received awards from Telkom Indonesia on Smart City and from the Ministry of Transportation for the management of its urban transport system.
