Prof. Adolfo Rubinstein, M.D, MSc, PhD, is the Minister of Health of Argentina. He was appointed as Secretary of Health Promotion, Prevention and Control (deputy minister) of the Argentine Ministry of Health in March 2017 and since last November, is the National Minister of Health. The three main strategies of the Ministry of Health are oriented to the expansion of Universal Health Coverage for the uninsured and vulnerable groups; implementation of health coverage and pricing policies of new technologies; and prevention and control of NCDs, focused on prevention of overweight and childhood obesity.
Dr. Rubinstein is a physician graduated with honors of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), trained later as a primary care doctor. He is full professor of public health, full professor of family medicine and director of the Master’s program in Clinical effectiveness at the school of medicine of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA and also a distinguish senior scholar of the Lown Cardiovascular Program at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health). He received a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, a doctoral degree in Public Health from UBA, and a diploma in International Health Economics from the University of York, UK.
Prof. Rubinstein was Chairman of the Division of Family and Community Medicine at the Hospital Italiano of Buenos Aires, one of the largest teaching hospitals in Argentina until 2010, and was the founder and former Director General of the Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS) in Buenos Aires. IECS is a leading academic institution dedicated to global health research and capacity building in public health and clinical research. Dr Rubinstein has published more than 100 papers in scientific peer-reviewed journals and his research has been focused on NCD epidemiology and prevention, implementation science, health services and policy research, and economic evaluations of interventions and policies on non-communicable diseases prevention and control. He is also an investigator of the National Scientific Research Council of the Ministry of Science and Technology in Argentina
