Abhilasha Sahay is an Economist at the Gender Group at the World Bank, based in Washington DC. In her current role, she is leading a portfolio of projects on jobs and female labor force participation. She also serves as the Regional Liaison for Africa West region at the Bank and is a core team member of the World Bank’s Gender Strategy Update. Previously, Abhilasha has worked at the Africa Gender Innovation Lab (World Bank) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Government of India). She has 5+ years of experience in the international development space with a key focus on economics of gender, crime, and family economics. She received her PhD in Economics at the George Washington University and Master’s in economics from London School of Economics. Abhilasha has been conferred with the Mariam K. Chamberlain Award by the International Center of Research on Women (ICRW) and the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Award by the Global Women’s Institute, for her doctoral research on reporting of gender-based violence.
