Zacharey Carmichael is an Economist in the Food and Nutrition Security team of the World Bank’s Agriculture and Food Global Practice. He serves as the technical coordinator for food security crises for the IDA Crisis Response Window Early Response Financing (CRW ERF) – a US$1 billion financing modality to help countries scale up early action to emerging food and nutrition security crises and disease outbreaks. He is also a member of the Secretariat for the Global Alliance for Food Security (GAFS), a member of the Coordination Unit for the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), and he supports the World Bank’s engagement as part of the Global Network Against Food Security Crises. Zacharey specializes in food security crisis risk management, including strategic capacity building in food security crisis preparedness. Prior to joining AGF, Zacharey served in the Fragility, Conflict, and Violence (FCV) Global Theme where he led pilot efforts under the Famine Action Mechanism (FAM), supported the implementation of the Bank’s strategy on FCV, served as a core member of the Global Crisis Risk Platform (GCRP), and helped design and launch the Lebanon Financing Facility (LFF). Zacharey has also worked as part of the World Bank’s Capital Markets Group in Treasury where he supported new funding and derivatives transactions across IBRD and IDA. Prior to the World Bank, Zacharey worked on the interest rate and foreign exchange derivatives sales desks for large-cap investment banks.
