Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha was born on April 19, 1963, in Kim Loc commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province in central Vietnam. He has served in this position since April 2016. He is the member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s Central Committee for two terms (12th and 13th) since 2016. He also served as a National Assembly Deputy for the 14th term (2016-2021). Dr. Ha worked as technical officer at Center for Supporting Information and Electronic Science Development in Moscow between 1992 and 1996. He joined the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment as an officer in September 1996 and became Deputy Director of its Environment Department six years later. Between January 2004 and June 2008, he was Acting Director and then Director of the Environmental Protection Agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. In July 2008, he was promoted to Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and served for a six-month stint. In January 2009, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial People’s Committee. In July 2010, he returned to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, served as a deputy minister, before being promoted to Minister in April 2016. Dr. Ha holds a Ph.D. degree in Mineral Technology and Management (Moscow State Mining University, Russia).
