Matteo Morgandi is the Lead Economist for People in the Middle East & North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan region of the World Bank. In this role, he has served as the lead author of the region’s flagship report on human capital, Embracing and Shaping Change. Previously he was the senior economist and global co-lead for Labor and Skills in the Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice at the World Bank. During his career Matteo worked as an economist in social protection and labor in the LAC, MENA and ECA regions, until recently leading the social assistance and labor engagement in Brazil.
Matteo’s prior analytical and operational work includes labor market analytics, employment services and programs, conditional cash transfers, coordination of tax and benefits systems and youth programs. Matteo holds a MA in Development Economics from SAIS, Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD from the Graduate Institute, Geneva.
