Martin Mauthe-Kaeter is the deputy head of policy division at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). He is leading BMZ’s initiative on religion and development. This includes the coordination of BMZ’s Task Force on Religion, Values and Development as well as a team of experts from civil society and academia that is consulting the ministry. Previously, he worked on global governance, G8/G20 and multilateral development cooperation and served as the Private Secretary to the State Secretary at BMZ. Martin Mauthe-Kaeter holds a M.A. in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London) and a B.A. in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Konstanz. Beside London and Konstanz he also studied in Istanbul. During his studies he focused on Islamism, faith-based governance and religion as a source for social capital.
