Alejandra Botero Barco

Economist and political scientist from Swarthmore College, Alejandra Botero holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Columbia University (New York).

Her professional activity relates to international organizations, especially at the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), where she currently works as Planning, and Impact Development Manager, leading the strategic planning, budgeting and evaluation efforts at the Bank.

In 2018, she joined the Government of Colombia and worked in the creation of the Presidential Advisory for Public Management and Accountability. As Presidential Advisor, she led the monitoring and management of some of the transformational projects the Government of President Iván Duque has implemented, such as the Multipurpose Land Registry and the implementation of the National Qualifications Framework. As advisor she helped structure and coordinate the migration policy, centered around the 10-year Temporary Protection (TPS) Status instrument.

From 2021 to 2022 she led the Department of Planning of Colombia, where she coordinated and published over 40 policy documents, including the policy document which organizes and funds the implementation of TPS from 2022-2032. In addition, she concentrated her efforts on structuring the policies for including migrants with TPS into all the social programs, such as health and education. Finally, she led the publishing, after 20 years, of a long term vision for the country, Colombia 2050.

Before joining CAF, Alejandra co-founded and directed the Impact Hub Caracas, a co-working space for entrepreneurs. She worked at Mckinsey & Company, a leader in management consulting, where she participated in development programs, working mostly with the public and financial sectors.
