Abhijit V. Banerjee is the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL). In 2011, he was named one of Foreign Policy magazine’s top one hundred global thinkers. Banerjee served on the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. He has received numerous honors and awards including the inaugural Infosys Prize and, most recently, the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics. Poor Economics, his previous book with Esther Duflo, won the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year award and was translated into seventeen languages.
