Vegard Kaale was born in Oslo, Norway, on 28 April 1961. He obtained his master’s degree in political science at the Oslo University, Norway, in 1986. He started his career as a diplomat when he became an Advisor for the Department for European Affairs at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1991 – 1998), after which he has held numerous positions at the Ministry including stints as First Secretary, Norwegian Embassy in Dublin, Ireland (1998 – 2001); Minister Councillor, Norwegian Embassy in the Hague, Netherlands (2005 – 2008) and Senior Policy Director at the Section for Development Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2012 – 2014). Prior to being appointed as the Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste in late 2017, he was Director at the Energy Section, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
