Thomas Silberhorn studied law at the universities of Erlangen, Munich and Bayreuth.
He has worked as legal intern/articled clerk in Bamberg, Bayreuth, Paris and Brussels and as Research assistant in public law, with a specialization in European law at the Universityof Bamberg. He subsequently served as research assistant in the Public Law Department, specializing in in¬ter-national and European Law at the University of Bamberg. His political career started in 1998 as a Member of the federal executive committee of the "Junge Union".
He has served as a Member of the federal executive committee of the Christian Social Union, CSU; a member of the district assembly for Bamberg; a member of the German Parliament (Bundestag); Deputy chairman of the CSU regional executive committee for Oberfranken; Spokes person on foreign affairs, defense, EU-related matters, economic cooperation and development; human rights and humanitarian assistance for the "land" group of CSU parliamentarians within the German Bundestag; Chairman of the CSU district executive committee for Bamberg-Land; Spokesperson for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group on the legal affairs committee of the German Bundestag; Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group for internal and legal affairs and consumer protection.
Since 2014 he has held the position of Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
