Sunita Narain is a Delhi-based environmentalist, author, and Director General of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), as well as Editor of Down To Earth. With over four decades of work, she has led research and advocacy on air pollution, climate change, water management, pesticide regulation, and sustainable urbanization, combining science-based evidence with a pro-poor perspective. Narain has been influential in shaping environmental and development policy in India and globally, advocating for ambitious and equitable climate agreements.

She has served on the Indian Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change and continues to advise national and international bodies. Her leadership at CSE earned the Stockholm Water Prize in 2005. She has received the Padma Shri and was named among Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2016. Narain also featured in Leonardo DiCaprio’s documentary Before the Flood, highlighting climate change’s impact on India’s monsoon and farmers. She remains dedicated to research, awareness, and urgent action on environment and development.
