A leader in international development and a long-serving champion of gender equality, Sofía Sprechmann Sineiro has been with CARE for more than 25 years. She was integral to placing women and gender justice at the heart of CARE’s work. Prior to becoming the organization’s Secretary General in 2020, she was Program Director for CARE International and responsible for leading the implementation of CARE’s program strategy worldwide, making a significant contribution to fighting poverty and inequality, and toward attaining the Sustainable Development Goals, with demonstrated impact on 157 million people in 81 countries in the 2015-2020 period.
With extensive experience in program design and implementation, impact measurement and evaluation, and advocacy, Ms. Sprechmann Sineiro is dedicated to transforming power relations inside and outside of the organization. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from the Universidad de la República Oriental del Uruguay and an MSc in Epidemiology from the University of London/London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
