Satsuki Katayama is the Minister of Finance, Minister of State for Financial Services, and Minister in charge of Reviewing Special Measures Concerning Taxation and Subsidies, serving as the first woman ever to hold this position. She previously served as Minister of State for Regional Revitalization, Regulatory Reform, and Gender Equality, and as Minister in charge of Women’s Empowerment and Regional Revitalization in Japan.

She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2005 and later elected to the House of Councillors through proportional representation in 2010, being re-elected for three consecutive terms. Earlier in her career, she joined the Ministry of Finance in 1982, where she became the first woman to serve as Director for Budget and played an essential role in drafting the Act on the Securitization of Assets (SPC Law). She graduated from the Cycle spécial étranger at École Nationale d’Administration (ENA) in France in 1986 and received a BA in Laws from the University of Tokyo in 1982.
