Winner of Global Teacher Prize, Peter is a Kenyan mathematics and science teacher who comes from a very rural part of the country. His belief in his students and his innovative and passionate pedagogical approaches resulted in his students competing and winning national science competitions and participating in international ones. In addition to his work at school, in response to the ethnic violence that engulfed Kenya earlier this decade, he established a Peace Club that brought people in his local communities together, and in addition, given the famine and climatic conditions the province he is in, he has set up a program to teach local farmers about drought resistant crops, as a way of tackling food insecurity issues. Peter is a Franciscan Brother and donates over 80% of his salary to community projects, thereby truly living up to his Franciscan values.
