Paulo has 21 years’ experience in the natural resources, industrial and infrastructure sectors, with exposure to different business functions and geographies. He has a successful history in corporate turnarounds, mega capital project management, stakeholder and government relations, as well as operations safety improvement.
In March 2017, he joined EGA (Emirates Global Aluminium) as Chief Executive Officer of GAC – Guinean Alumina Corporation – to lead the implementation of a 12 million tonne per annum Bauxite operation in Guinea.
From 2011 to 2015, as CEO of Anglo American’s Iron Ore Brazil business, Paulo led the implementation of one of the world’s most complex mining and infrastructure projects – Minas Rio – with total investment of USD 8.3 billion, by revamping the management team, systems and re-building relationships with governments and stakeholders. Conceptualised a number of initiatives that later became case studies and discussion forums at the IFC, World Bank and other entities. He is a former member of Anglo American plc’s Executive Committee, Board Member of the Brazilian Chamber of Mines and Chairman of FerroPort (Port JV with EIG).
Paulo was born in Santo Andre, Brazil, has a BA in Business Administration (Major in Finance) from Fundação Getúlio Vargas in São Paulo and MBA with focus on Strategic Planning and Marketing from the London Business School in the United Kingdom.
