Mark King is the Chief Officer, Environmental and Social Standards, in the Operations Policy & Country Services (OPCS), The World Bank Group, since January, 2014. Among other tasks, he is directly responsible for the ongoing Update and Review of the Bank's Safeguard policies.
Prior to joining the Bank, Mark was Director of Policy and Project Oversight at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) which finances projects in the public and private sectors through lending and equity. At the EBRD, Mark was responsible for three revisions of the environmental and social safeguards and putting in place the system to operationalize them.
Mark has over twenty five years of experience in environmental assessment and management throughout Eurasia, South and South East Asia, the Caribbean and Central America. His experience spans all sectors, particularly the transport, energy, agribusiness and intermediated finance sectors. Mark has also worked in the private environmental consulting sector.
