Ms. Maria Angelica Sotomayor is a Practice Manager for Africa Region with the World Bank Water Global Practice. Ms. Sotomayor joined the Bank in 1996 and since then she has had a number of managerial and leadership positions including Practice Manager for the Water Global Programs Unit overseeing the Global Water Security and Sanitation Partnership (GWSP); Lead Economist in the Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice for the Africa Urban and Disaster Risk Management Unit. In this role, she co-lead the urban resilience agenda, managed the CityStrength Diagnostic Tool and co-chaired the Integrated Urban Water Management knowledge initiative; she served as a Sector Leader for Sustainable Development in Haiti and the Caribbean Country Management Units, and was a co-chair for the Rural Water and Sanitation Thematic Group. She has 25 years of experience in development policy dialogue and in the design, appraisal, and implementation of investment projects in water and sanitation and urban infrastructure in Africa, Latin America, Europe and Central Asia.
