Mejia has been working with DNP (Department of National Planning) since September 2014. He was earlier head of the Directorate of Macroeconomic Policy in the Ministry of Finance. He has served as a researcher at the Central Bank, specializing in macroeconomics and international economics, and as a researcher at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). He has a doctorate from the University of Chicago and has been a professor of international macroeconomics and finance at the University of the Andes, Javeriana University and the University of Chicago.
