Lou Jiwei is Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of China. He is a member of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Before he was appointed Minister of Finance in 2013, he was Chairman, Party Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of China Investment Corporation, China’s sovereign wealth fund. Prior to that, Mr. Lou was Vice Minister of Finance from 1998 to 2007. In 2007 he also served as Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council (Ministerial Level).
From 1995 to 1998, he served as Deputy Governor of Guizhou Province. Before that, he was Director-General of the State Commission for Economic Reform, Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Office for Economic Reform, and also worked in the Cost and Price Office, Institute of Finance and Economics of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Financial and Banking Group, Research Center of General Office of the State Council.
In 2008, Time considered Mr. Lou one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Forbes listed him as the 30th most powerful person in the world on its "Powerful People 2010" list. In 2011 he was included in the 50 Most Influential ranking of Bloomberg Markets magazine. In addition, he was listed 12th on Chief Investment Officer Magazine’s 2012 list of the 100 most influential institutional investors worldwide.
