Bruce Moats is Director of IFC Communications, a position he has held for the past 10 years. He is a member of the Bank Group's External and Corporate Relations extended management team, and oversees the Group's brand management. He serves as overall strategic communications and external affairs advisor for IFC. He is head of IFC's global communications network, responsible for delivering the strategic programs and managing the technical platforms in external/media relations, internal/staff engagement, brand/marketing, online/web, and public policy/reputational risk management.
Under his leadership, IFC established a brand identity and a strategic communications program that has positioned it to achieve greater development impact, growth, and client satisfaction. Over the past two years, Bruce played a key role in developing a unified brand identity for the Bank Group and in creating a collaborative model of strategic communications across the Group.
Bruce, who joined the Bank Group in 2005, has extensive experience in employee engagement and worker rights, having served as co-chair of the University of North Carolina's Kenan Institute on Corporate Social Responsibility. He has testified before Congress on areas related to labor and human rights. He has lectured at Stanford on labor relations, Harvard on HIV/AIDS in the workplace, University of California - Berkley on corporate social responsibility, and most recently at the University of Florida on strategic communications.
Before joining the Bank Group, Bruce was a corporate vice president at Levi Strauss & Co., where he served as the company's principal advisor on external relations—including labor and human rights. While at Levi Strauss, he represented U.S. business at the ILO in Geneva that resulted in the ILO's declaration on HIV/AIDS Workplace Code of Conduct that was later adopted by the UN General Assembly. He also served as Chair of the San Francisco Business Coalition, leading business delegations to China and Russia.
Before that, he spent 15 years at AT&T in various management positions, including as Director of International Trade Policy, as Corporate Market Analyst, and as a systems engineer.
