The World Bank and United Nations, along with leaders from countries affected by chronic food insecurity, gathered in Bali to discuss the implementation of the Famine Action Mechanism (FAM)—the first global mechanism dedicated to preventing future famines.
Launched at the UN General Assembly in September, the FAM aims to bring together innovative technology, early financing, and strong partnerships on the ground. The innovative partnership represents the deepening of relationships across the humanitarian and development communities to address the multi-dimensional challenges of extreme poverty.
Panelists applauded the FAM’s proactive and collaborative approach, and called on its partners to make better use of data and technology to improve existing forecasting systems and promote effective mobilization of financing.
