There are also questions on the impact of COVID-19 on the economic situation of families who had migrated to urban areas and the resultant effect on their children’s education.Especially, in urban areas of India, migrants are usually employed in the informal sector and many of these families rely on public schools and low-fee paying private schools for their education. The impact of the pandemic on the informal sector could pose a serious risk to their livelihood and push them to return back which has already started. This could significantly impede their children’s education, especially in terms of access to education in the same language medium that they were studying and to ensure lateral admissions in their respective levels once they have returned back.
