@Kharim Kibuuka: In Uganda, the low cost of used vehicles makes them more appealing even after adding a tax on their sales. Managing the vehicles' exit and their end of life is another issue that Uganda faces. Uganda is working to engage the private sector in undertaking the regulation of the end of life of vehicles. Uganda is also involved in a program to ensure that all standards related to motorized vehicles are harmonized across the East Africa region. There is a need for concerted efforts and coming up with a collaborative approach to the issue at hand.

@Rob de Jong: old vehicles cost much more to run and their quality across their lifetime is low in comparison to newer vehicles. A smaller, younger and cleaner car is cheaper to run.

@Herman Sips: there is a big prize to win in health, environment and climate and to get to the prize we need harmonization, collaboration and ensuring that no one is left behind. Issues of affordability and equity are also critical. To get to the prize, we need fuel so issues of financing are essential.
