Your Food Crisis Questions & Solutions

Food availability (in any place) is affected mainly by crop production and the market "forces" (supply and demand). These two intertwined factors (production and market) influence the food crisis. What would you suggest to have a win-win solution?

Food scarcity is just related to poor countries goverment´s corruption. It has nothing to do with high prices and the like.

Hello people of this worldwide you cannot liberate the hunger unless you struggle for development of agricultural tools for land activities. Remember to reduce the rate of crimes against humanity. mostly some parts of the world where the wars were found people stop practicing planting crops to sustain their life.

Why many many billions of poor people in the world today? Answer to my comment is that many many among us are not been thought of love for others regardless of optimism in colors, religions and regions for way forward for world unity and peace.

All current famines and food crises today are man made--that is we have the technology and capactiy and arable land if there were the political will to feed everybody on the face of the planet. Concurrently, because of globalization and lending practices of the past, we've told developing to countries to stop growing crops to feed themselves and instead grow crops cash crops that can be traded on the global market for hard currency (e.g., corn for ethanol). That cash by the way, will probably be eaten up by corrupt politicians. Now we're told that governments ought to use the cash to by rain index futures as insurance against natural distasters so, what, they can buy food from countries that can grow food that they no longer can? This seem really like we haven't helped the developing world at all.

The public sector investment is declining in agriculture and allied sector in many countries which need to be enhanced for increasing food production. The experience of India in implementation of community -based tank management programme funded by world Bank is encouraging which need to be replicated in other countries.

I want to ask that the global companies controlling the food supplies in the world are not checking the so called terms "BIO FUELS" and "BIO DIESELS" which is the main cause of the shortage and hefty rise in the food crops. Why laws pertaining to "storage" of food crops are not framed? Which encourages "BIO FUELS". Food the basic necessity in life is taking an open forum for debate why so?

Part of the solution to the food crisis problem lies in a change of attitude towards what we refer to as 'food'. In Kenya, often during times of failed rains and the drought that follows, we hear people saying "there is a food shortage" when they actually mean "there is a shortage of maize [the staple food]". But what about cassava, sweet potato, yams, arrow roots... the so-called 'orphan crops'? Are these not also 'food'? Can they not also be consumed as alternative sources of energy? Plus, they have the added advantage of being drought-tolerant. And with the help of biotechnology and plant breeding technology, we can boost their nutritive value (as in the case of Vitamin A enriched orange-fleshed sweet potato) and pest resistance. Similarly, Africa is blessed with a diversity of species of green leafy vegetables, packed with beta-carotene and micronutrients, but many Kenyans would consider 'greens' to comprise just spinach, cabbage and 'sukuma wiki' (kale/collard greens). The traditional/indigenous foods need to reclaim their rightful place on the National Menu.

there are several issues that concern me that I think could reduce hunger: Put a stop to food speculation that causes betting on food and stops farmers getting a reasonable return. remove the subsidies that rich countries give to their farmers meaning that developing world farmers cannot compete Stop dumping of surpluses by rich countries, depressing developing country food prices to farmers and destroying their food industries Give developing countries a grant, not a loan, to enable them to adapt to climate change. Those are just a few. In fact what I mean is treat them how we treat ourselves so that they Are able to grow their economies and become self sufficient

How can the World Bank move quickly towards sustainable economics? I propose that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Managing Director of the World Bank, recreates the organisation's financial framework to fully embrace a sustainable economic model that places women at the centre of putting food first policy and decision-making. Women know exactly how to put food first. We have been doing it for centuries. Let teams of women drive the agenda at the World Bank. The results will be restoration, renewal and rejoicing. Nature's model of "Abundance" has been overshadowed by the conventional economic model of scarcity, which is bankrupting every living ecosystem. It's time for abundance to resurface. This is the only way that the world will truly work. Food Scarcity, Food Sovereignty, Hunger, lack of access to Safe Water, Climate Change, Poverty, Deforestation, Environmental Degradation, Gender Inequality and Human Rights are all inextricably linked. Our ecosystem is merely a reflection of and responding to the absence of responsibility in sustainable and equitable management of all natural resources. We must develop a global culture and spirit of interdependence, respect and reverence for our ecosystem. LET WOMEN LEAD THE WAY! We will do it simply, quickly, sensibly, economically, sustainably, good-heartedly and every part of the ecosystem will flourish as a result. Thank you for the opportunity to share my view.

We can increase food production in the world through commercial agriculture. The organisations doing research should strive to produce quick maturing variety seeds. The WFO should come up with an integrated programmes to support farmers who produce food on a commercial basis by providing irrigation equipment, tractors, seeds etc. In situations where there is a bumper harvest, provide storage facilities to take care of periods of scarcity. I have 1 square mile of land that can produce 10 M T of grain in 6 months but I lack help. The loans are expensive. Equipment cost is high and not locally available. So if I am helped, there would be some 10 Million MT of grain available from my farm alone.

The rise of food prices is the opportunity for poor and developing countries to develop the small farmer’s food production. Usually the international food aid induces a fall on local food demand and local prices, making unable to sustain household income and ineffective to boot food production. Programs could be design in order to buy food production from small farmer at a good price.
