Deputy Prime Minister Mohamed Omer Arteh Ghalib was sworn in as the Deputy Prime Minister for the Federal Republic of Somalia in February 2015. Motivated by a strong urge to serve his country, Mr. Ghalib left his tenured career in Banking for civil service, starting as the Chef de Cabinet from 1991 to 1993 for the Somali Prime Minister.
In 1997, he was appointed Director General and was privileged to lead the repatriation of Somalis from refugee camps in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Libya, Yemen and Bangladesh. Thereafter he worked with various Somaliland Ministries as a Senior Policy Adviser where he formulated strategic plans to develop institutional capacity and strengthen these ministries.
In the early 2000s, he worked as a consultant for a number of international organizations among them AU-IBAR where he was a Trade Expert and the United Nations Political Office for Somalia, as a Political Officer.
