Ms. Santala was elected to serve as the Executive Director for Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden on July 1, 2013. She started her career at the Finnish Red Cross in Ethiopia and then moved to the Department for Development Cooperation at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1994 and rose through the ranks to Director General for Development Policy in 2013. At the World Bank, she has represented Finland replenishment negotiations for IDA-17 and also for the African Development Fund, Asian Development Fund and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. She served on the Board of Directors of the Nordic Development Fund and chaired it from 2011-2012. She was a Governor for NORSAD and chaired this group from 2011-2012. She was Co-Chair of the Tanzania Development Partners Group. Ms. Santala holds a Master’s degree in Political Sciences (International Public Law), Åbo Akademi, Finland.
