Since September 2017, Jean-Marc Châtaigner is the new Ambassador and French Special Envoy for Sahel. Previously, he was the Deputy-Executive Director of Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD). Before moving to this position in March 2015, Mr. Châtaigner was the Deputy Director General for Global Affairs, Development and Partnerships at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, he was Ambassador of France to Madagascar (2009/2012), Director of the Office of the Minister of State for Coopération and Francophonie (2007/2009), Director of the Department of Strategic Planning and Partnerships (2004/2007) at AFD (French Development Agency). He was co-chair of the OECD’s Fragile States Group (2005/2007) and the chair in 2015 of MOPAN (Multilateral Organisation Performance Assessment Network). He wrote various books and articles on development and peace-building issues. He is the chief editor of the first French book on Resilience (“Fragilités et résilience : les nouvelles frontières de la mondialisation”). He recently published (October 2017) a book on Sustainable Development Goals.
